The GCOE's core projects, which most program members are involved in, are grouped into 8 research areas:

*    Theorizing Asian Public Spheres [Theory]
*    New Forms of Communities [Community]
*    Transformation of Intimacy and Family [History]
*    The 'Welfare Regime' in Asia [Policy]
*    Statistical Comparative Studies of Asian Countries [Family]
*    Labor and the Intimate Sphere [Labor]
*    Production, Reproduction and Migration [Migration]
*    Representation of the Intimate Sphere [Media]

In contrast to the focus that was placed during FY 2008 and FY 2009 on interpreting the intimate sphere, from FY 2010 onwards we intend to shift the focus onto analyzing the public sphere and further developing and expanding research in the areas of labor, migration, government policy, community and the media, in order to deepen the debate on the public sphere while continuing to define its relationship with the intimate sphere.

During FY 2011 and FY 2012 we would like to integrate the research and perspectives in these individual areas and develop a theoretical framework that can be used to make practical policy proposals.
