Brief Self Introduction:
I was awarded Ph.D. in Social Anthropology in 2005 from the King’s College, University of Cambridge. My thesis title is “Absorbing ‘Japan’: Transnational Media, Cross-cultural Consumption, and Identity Practice in Contemporary Taiwan”. Owing to my ethnographic fieldwork-in-Tokyo, in 2001, I once served as a visiting researcher in the Institute of Asian Cultural Studies at International Christian University (ICU). At present I am teaching in the Department of Sociology, National Taiwan University. My research interests are Material/Media Culture, Cross-cultural Consumption, Urban/Lifestyle Transformation as well as Japanese/Taiwanese Identities. Now I am also doing a comparative study of the sojourn experiences between Taiwanese students-in-Japan and Japanese students-in-Taiwan. Besides, I served as the Deputy President of Amnesty International (AI) in Taiwan during 2008-2010, as well as the Standing Director of Cultural Studies Association (CSA) from February of 2011 till now. In addition to academic publication, I wrote a book entitled “Thing-ology” in 2009 and joined to launch a film magazine entitled “Cue” in 2010.
