Current research interests and plans for the GCOE program

Since the spring of 2008, with the collaboration of Tuburaya Productions, I have been conducting interviews with the staff responsible for the production of the “Ultra series” television shows that were aired between the 1960s and early 1970s (Ultra Q, Ultraman, Ultraseven, Return of Ultraman). I believe several aspects of the intimate sphere in Japanese society during this period are reflected in these well known television programs. As I continue this research, I cannot but remember myself as a child watching those Tuburaya shows on TV.
