GCOE Research Committee: RC Theory

Current Research Subject and Aspirations toward the GCOE
Currently my research subject can be roughly divided into two fields. The first one is about Non-Standard Employment and Social Class. The increase of Non-standard Employment, particularly among young people, has been socially noticed but, I am trying to find out what position it has within the social structure of Japan. I am researching why there is a gap between the incomes of Standard and Non-standard employees, why women that work as non-standard employees delay their marriage age, and if non-standard employees are becoming standard employees or not.
My second research field is Sociology of Sociology and Social Epistemology. Although the problem of how sociology should be has been widely treated by Japanese historians and/or theoreticians of Sociology, I am trying at present to approach it by a different way. In other words, the ‘Sociology of Sociology’. I am thinking what way the Japanese Sociology should follow by making clear what the actual achievements of Sociology are. In this year I have analyzed the methods of the papers and thesis published in “Japanese Sociological Review” and “Soshioroji” magazines. I would like to contribute to the GCOE through theory.
