【Title】
Re-Configuring Public and Intimate Space via Religion: Four Cases from Rural China【Description of Lecture】
This lecture aims to illustrate how humble villagers may strive to reconfigure public and intimate space by means of folk religions in against to the State’s authority. It’s based on the fieldworks of the lecturer during the past three years.

1st week:
Introduction: Concepts and Problematic
Case 1. Home-Building: the Xiangmen of Wuji County, Hebei Province
2nd week:
Case 2. Returning Home: the Hunyuanmen of Li, Hebei Province
3rd week:
Case 3. “Keep up with the Joneses”: the rite of Xiehong in Changshu, Jiangsu Province
4th week : review and discussion
Case 4. Visualizing Individuality, Acting out Collectivity: the religious arts in Gaochun, Jiangsu Province
